Their mobile van makes green choices accessible throughout the city and they recently opened up a refill storefront in Northern Liberties! \nWe will also be welcoming the Philly Fixers Guild‘s Repair Cafe back to our spaces to help you fix and repair\, fix\, and assemble your tricky items. Why replace it when you can repair it? This urban volunteer repair outfit will help you fix your stuff\, free of charge\, and they’re ready for the challenge. DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nNextFab and Olde Kensington Boutique have once again partnered to bring you the second annual “Miracle on American Street” Holiday Gift Market! \nShop local and handmade this holiday season\, from over 70 local artists and makers while enjoying delicious food and drinks from vendors and cuisine from Sor Ynez. Tour the beautiful NextFab facilities and meet the makers in the actual studio spaces they use to produce the fantastic work available for purchase. Enjoy demonstrations\, giveaways\, and make-and-take activities within the makerspace. Be sure to stop by the laser lab at NextFab for your chance to win your very own Woodscapes Map\, and the NextFab booth for the chance to win 10 Jawnaments of your choice! You must be present at the event in order to win. \n\nEnjoy make-and-take activities for all ages\, including the make your own ornament at the ornament-making station and personalizing your own jewelry at the jewelry stamping station. Staff members will have work for sale in the NextFab lobby area and around the space. \n\n\nMetal Shop\n\nWatch the sparks fly in our metal shop\, as metalsmith master\, Tim demos TIG and MIG welding. Watch safely from a distance as he demonstrates skills learned in our metalworking classes. Be sure to pre-register for our open-to-the-public workshop in metalworking while you’re there. \n\n\nWoodshop Main area \n\nCurious about how to make furniture using the ShopBot CNC and other woodworking tools? Watch as Woodshop Manager\, Tyler runs files on the ShopBot to turn flat wood into functioning furniture. He’ll be applying the skills learned in our Upholstery and ShopBot classes\, where you can create your own tufted cushion in the Textiles Studio\, to then have a finished stool. Open the public pre-registration will be open for our Make Your Own Stool Workshop\, a three-part course that combines skills in the woodshop to make the base of your stool\, then complete a tufted cushion\, which finishes it up by fastening everything together.\n\n\nLathe Zone\n\nWoodworker and musician Joey Catrambone will be showing off his lathe and turning skills in our lathe zone. Be sure to pop by\, see some of his beautiful handcrafted work\, and learn more about lathe classes at NextFab. \n\n\nTextiles\n\nOpen to the public preregistration is now open for our Leatherworking I: Make your Own Leather Belt workshop. Discover the basics of leatherworking by making a custom leather belt to give as a special gift this holiday season! Choose from black or brown leather\, and nickel or brass hardware\, and practice safe splitting\, beveling\, burnishing\, and hand punching. Walk your newly created belt down to the event gift-wrapping station\, and cross a loved one off your list.\n\nNote: please bring belt measurements to this workshop.\n\n\n\n\nJewelry Studios\n\nTake a swing at jewelry stamping in the NextFab Jewelry studio\, and engrave a special message on a pendant. Add to a necklace\, bracelet\, or to the collar of your dog. Free and open to the public. \n\n\nLasers\n\nWoodscapes Maps maker Ray will be demonstrating his process of creating his customized wooden maps in the laser cutting and engraving studio in NextFab. As part of a special event giveaway\, he will be raffling off one map at 3 pm – to enter and receive it\, you must be present at the event.\nHyper-local ornaments\, Jawnaments will be raffling off 10 Jawnments as part of a special event giveaway!
