Electronics Technical Supervisor

NextFab is seeking an engaging, talented, and enthusiastic electronics wizard for our Technical Supervisor position. NextFab is a collaborative makerspace for creators of any skill level or interest. We provide access to machinery, education, membership, community, events, and professional services for anything you want to fabricate. By combining digital technology with traditional tools, we’re finding cutting-edge ways to make things, solve problems, and learn by doing. The Technical Supervisor is primarily responsible for supporting NextFab members of all skill levels, maintaining the safety of the shop and equipment and teaching classes. Electronics skills developed through personal pursuits, education, or professional experience, are required. The technical supervisor will also work with the contract services department to develop electronic components for prototypes for hardware products using techniques including breadboarding to schematic capture, board layout, microcontroller coding, manual and automated pick and place assembly.

We are looking for candidates for the position who feel passionate about supporting the mission and work of our organization and our customers. There is a high level of flexibility in the job functions, and individuals are allowed and expected to work autonomously and contribute ideas and effort as business needs and their skills allow. It is a fast paced environment, and staff are expected to perform at a high level from the beginning, so the candidate will need to find motivation in solving problems on a daily basis.

This position is hourly and reports to the Electronics Manager. Evening and weekend hours are required. Full time employees are eligible for our benefits package, including PTO, health, vision and dental plans and professional development allowance.

Desirable Skills:

  • Proven understanding in electronics prototyping / development
  • Microcontroller applications (board and firmware) experience
  • Electronics CAD experience (schematic, layout, routing)
  • Soldering skills
  • Familiarity with electronics equipment and maintenance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience or interest in an instructional role, including developing and teaching courses
  • Operation of automated Pick and Place machinery a plus
