HR Assistant

NextFab is seeking an engaging and focused people-person for our HR Assistant position at our Washington Avenue Location.  NextFab offers excellent benefits including employer contributions toward health insurance premiums, professional development, and the opportunity to use the NextFab facilities outside of working hours.

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, etc.; refers more complex questions to the HR Manager. 
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs background screenings as per regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to external requests for employee information as appropriate.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • May assist with onboarding new employees as well as entering employee information into HRIS and answering employee questions.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties and celebrations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, and human resource information system (HRIS).
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Desirable Skills:

  • Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related office experience preferred.

Electrical Engineer (South Philadelphia)

NextFab is seeking an engaging, talented, and enthusiastic person for our Electronics Department Technical Supervisor position. NextFab is a collaborative makerspace and business accelerator. We provide access to machinery, education, membership, community, events, rental space, and professional services to enable innovators to turn ideas into products, and products into businesses. We are looking for candidates for the position who feel passionate about supporting the mission and work of our organization and our customers.

The  Electrical Engineer leads the electronics department at our South Philadelphia location and is responsible for ensuring the department is well-maintained, organized, efficient, and serves the needs of the tech-startups, inventors, and artisans that use the location.


• Report to the Location Manager
• Support NextFab’s Electronics department, directing the tools and growth trajectory
• Organize and maintain the department and its physical assets
• Manage department’s inventory of consumables
• Ensure that department capabilities are in tune with the state of the art of the field
• Teach Electronics department classes and courses in support of education services and with the assistance of other instructors
• Continually improve the competence of self and staff with Electronics departments tools and processes
• Develop and maintain basic competence with tools and processes of other NextFab departments
Occasionally support other needs of the company as skills and needs dictate

This role will be the subject matter expert in electronics for the South Philly location but will support multiple departments and our planned business accelerator program as part of a small team. Candidates should have direct experience in multiple areas of design and fabrication, including one or more of:

3D Computer-Aided Design (SolidWorks, Rhinoceros preferred)
Graphic design and illustration (Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop preferred)
CNC routing
3D Printing
3D Scanning
Large-format 2D printing (Roland vinyl print-cut systems preferred)
Laser cutting

40 hours/week. Hours include evenings and weekends.
Occasional attendance at events outside of normal work hours.


  • Basic circuit design, prototyping, troubleshooting (e.g. Breadboarding circuits)
  • Reading of circuit schematics
  • Basic electronics theory (Ohm’s Law, Ampere’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Laws, etc.)
  • Through-hole and surface-mount soldering
  • Bench test equipment (DMM, power supply, oscilloscope, function generator)
  • Microcontroller Programming (Arduino required)

Desirable Skills:

  • 2-year or 4-year degree in electrical engineering
  • 2+ years of professional experience in electronics repair or manufacturing
  • 4+ years of electronics hobby project activity
  • PCB Design and Layout Software (e.g. AutoDesk Eagle)
  • Firmware Development in C/C++ (preferred), Python, etc.
  • Embedded System Design (e.g. integration of electronics design and firmware development)
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

This person will work at our Washington Avenue location (this is a hybrid position).

• Oversight and execution of the Company’s accounts payable functions
Oversight and execution of the Company’s accounts receivable activities
• Manage relationships with Company’s accounting, and book-keeping consultants
Collaborate with Senior Management, Sales / Marketing, and Operational Departments on annual budgeting
Collaborate with Human Resources on annual compensation budget planning and benefits renewals
Collaborate with Senior Management on strategic planning
Report to Senior Management on Company financial performance
Maintain and update Company financial- and accounting-related policies


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
  • 5+ years of controller or accounting experience
  • Ability to engage with and work along other organizational leaders
  • A strong working knowledge of Quickbooks, including payroll journal entries
  • Experience with point of sale systems is preferred
  • Experience with multi-jurisdiction tax issues is preferred
  • Experience with organizations with a revenue of $5+ million per year is preferred.
