Community Manager / Assistant Manager: North Philadelphia

NextFab is seeking an engaging, focused and dynamic Assistant Manager to join our team.

NextFab is a network of collaborative makerspaces for creators of any skill level or interest. We provide access to machinery, education, membership, community, events, and professional services for anything you want to fabricate. The Community Manager / Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for the various tasks involved in the overall operation of the location, including management of the physical plant and equipment, tracking the location budget and controlling expenses. The person in this role will develop and communicate with all staff as well as assesses performance on a regular basis. Will oversee the delivery of services to members while supporting the funnel of artisan business studio users, assess and track the location’s strategic goals, maintain adherence to company policies and procedures, coordinate front desk and community engagement, and assist with the planning and support of events.

There is a high level of flexibility in the job functions, and individuals are allowed and expected to work autonomously and contribute ideas and effort as business needs and their skills allow. It is a fast paced environment, and staff are expected to perform at a high level from the beginning, so the candidate will need to find motivation in solving problems on a daily basis.

This position assists with the management of Location employees and is responsible for leadership of the employees.

The job operates in a Shop environment and may regularly be exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise. This job requires the employee to lift at least 25 pounds infrequently.

This is a full time position; evening and weekend work will be required. Full time employees are eligible for our benefits package, including PTO, health, vision and dental plans and professional development allowance.

Part Time Technical Supervisor: Wood Shop & Metal Shop

NextFab is seeking an engaging and enthusiastic technical team member. This person will oversee and instruct members in the facility, ensuring that machinery and equipment is used safely, in accordance with policies. NextFab is a network of collaborative makerspaces for creators of any skill level or interest. We provide access to machinery, education, membership, community, events, and professional services for anything you want to fabricate. By combining digital technology with traditional tools, we’re finding cutting-edge ways to make things, solve problems, and learn by doing.

We are looking for candidates for the position who feel passionate about supporting the mission and work of our organization and our customers.

This is a part-time position (15-30 hours / week). Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Requirements:

  • Provide technical assistance, safety supervision, teaching and informal instruction to NextFab members in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Know and enforce NextFab safety, courtesy, and access policies
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safe functionality of shop and tools
  • Develop tutorial projects to promote self-paced learning by members
  • Develop and maintain a high level of competence with wood and metal shop tools and processes
  • Develop and maintain basic competence with tools and processes of other NextFab departments
  • Occasional other duties as requested by management

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in a technical environment
  • Experience with woodworking or metalworking is required
  • CNC experience is a plus
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Customer service experience is a plus

Documentation Specialist

The Documentation Specialist is responsible for developing, writing, editing, and maintaining written content. This documentation includes educational material, reference manuals, training materials, conceptual overviews, technical documentation, and other informational documentation as needed.

This is an on-site position at multiple locations within Philadelphia.

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 15 hours per week (minimum 6 hours on site, weekly).

This is a 1099 position.

Requirements:

  • Conduct interviews with technical specialists to obtain best practices when using equipment and machinery
  • Develop and write a variety of technical articles, reports, and/or manuals for documentation for a wide range of uses
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Develop and write comprehensive documentation that allows members to safely utilize the equipment
  • Documentation changes as required
  • Support workflow and quality control activities associated with data analysis procedures

Desirable Skills:

  • 1-3 years of industry experience as an effective Documentation Specialist
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or English field or equivalent related experience (or in progress towards degree)
  • Understanding of educational curriculum development, such as outlining goals and objectives (Curriculum developer, curriculum specialist)
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics
  • Previous experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Experience working to refine content
