Make Your Own Wooden Frame and Photo Workshop

About the Course

Try your hand at woodworking and fine art printing in the NextFab makerspace in this open-to-the-public workshop. Create a wooden picture frame in the woodshop and print a fine art print or photo using our large-scale photo printer in this two-day workshop. This will teach you the best practices for printing fine art and photography prints, accompanied by making a matching wooden frame. All materials are provided in your class cost.

Day 1:

We start with going over the math and essential equations used to determine frame sizes, much of which is very relevant to woodworking at large. We then use the router table and table saw in conjunction to create edge profiles and rabbets, miter cuts and joinery, and keyholes to create a picture frame. We will have wood prepared to make a frame for artwork up to 8×10”, so come in with the size image you would like to print ready to go! 

Day 2:

We move on to our large format fine art printer where you will learn how to format your image for printing, including some basic photo editing tips through Adobe Photoshop, and make your print on one of our high-quality photo and fine art papers. We wrap up by cutting custom-sized mats to perfectly frame your image.
