Manufacturing 101 is an opportunity to gain insights into working with manufacturers. The presentation will discuss design for manufacturing, understanding supply chain development, and manufacturing practices. We will cover design and manufacturing jargon, how to determine best strategies for early production and scaled production, and share resources to help find regional manufacturing capabilities. By attending the presentation you will be given the opportunity to help define new supply chain development services.
We will be joined by guest speaker, Andrew Dahlgren. He has been working with Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) on the Manufacturing Access Project to develop new strategies to connect designers, makers, and entrepreneurs to regional manufacturers. Over the past two years they have learned about the growing number of entrepreneurs in the region and their desire to source regional manufacturing capabilities. In parallel they have identified many barriers that have prevented entrepreneurs and manufacturers from working together.
Manufacturing 101 is their first step to addressing and removing those barriers. Andrew’s work as a designer, maker, entrepreneur, and teacher has helped shape his understanding of the many parts of the industrial ecosystem at work in the region. As a teacher he helps many future entrepreneurs develop strategies for translating an idea and early vision into a manufactured product. Outside of academia, he is working to develop new strategies for regional development that combine inclusive circular economic practices with increased access to design, making, and entrepreneurial education and support.
This event is open to the public, but RSVP’s are required.
