Partnering with the Franklin Institute and the American Philosophical Society, NextFab created a one-of-a-kind challenge as part of their Philadelphia Science Festival. We designed and facilitated a 3-hour Happy Hour to give their audience a taste of the product design process. 60 participants were broken up into teams of 6-8 to compete with a Rube Goldberg machine to open a can of beer, with unexpected challenges thrown in every 10 minutes. Teams brainstormed, collaborated, and adapted their designs on the fly, to create the most elaborate (and functional) machine. In the end, Ben Franklin himself awarded the winner with a custom trophy. Franklin Institute: Patent Pending: Make Your Way to The Top
