February Philly Fixers Guild Repair Fair

February 8 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Why replace it when you can repair it? In these popup Repair Fairs, the volunteers of the Philly Fixers Guild will help you fix your stuff, free of charge, and they’re ready for the challenge. Got tangled jewelry, IKEA furniture that needs assembling, or a vacuum cleaner that’s on the fritz? Sit down with one of their volunteers and they’ll help you hands-on with fixing it. While they do have some limits, they encourage a read of their ground rules before bringing in your items.

This independent collective of talented volunteers from differing technical backgrounds is committed to the idea of “repair rather than replace.” These volunteer Fixers do not simply fix items for people but rather work with them to teach the troubleshooting and repair process. Ultimately, our community will benefit from less waste and improved economic conservation.

Sign up for a slot here.

Philly Fixers Guild is collaborating with Unless Kids on a toy drop-off event for this January 11th Philly Fixer’s event, from 6:00-8:00 pm at NextFab.

Unless Kids is a fun, sustainable, and convenient membership-based toy-buying platform for you to get the toys your kids want and get rid of the toys they don’t, all in one easy solution, they will be up and running this year. They are collecting the toys you need to get rid of to make room for new ones. Not only will this help them build out inventory, but it will also get you one free month of membership on the platform for every toy they receive from you (up to a year of membership).

Please come on down to drop off toys and spend some time learning to repair things! Unless Kids ask that when setting aside toys to give them, you follow the golden rule: give unto others what you would want to give to your child. Basically, please don’t include any broken, incomplete, or for lack of a better word, “gross,” toys. They are specifically looking for toys designed for children ages 2-10 years.

Rolling tours of NextFab will be available, and light drinks and refreshments will be served.

What are Second Thursdays?

For 17 years, the Crane Arts Building has hosted monthly art exhibitions, performances, and openings on the Second Thursday of every month. Similar to First Fridays in Old City, but not wanting to compete, Second Thursdays were created to highlight the creative community of the North Philadelphia neighborhood – and well it stuck!

American St. is becoming a booming street for artists, makers, and creatives of all types, and we invite you to come out to be a part of this. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio, the NextFab building at 1800 North houses eight businesses that will also be opening their doors on the second Thursday of every month. At 1800 N. American St. the creative work ranges from restoring historic neon, sourcing salvaged materials, empowering artists, building bicycles, supporting artisan businesses, a gorgeous floral market, and a restaurant mixing up amazing cocktails. All are welcome to this open house-style event!

While at the 1800 N. American St. building be sure to check out our neighbors:
