About the Course

Explore the age-old art of blacksmithing. In this two-night course, instructors will cover the basics of forging with a propane forge and the use of the oxy-propylene torch. Students will learn to properly operate the equipment, the safety protocol for handling hot metal, and how to form metal through heating and hammering. Each student will make their own set of coat hooks, gaining proficiency in the propane forge and oxy-propylene torch for future use. Practice how to use tongs, hammers, and anvils to bend and forge wall coat hooks. NOTE: This class requires the ability to swing a mallet with force and tolerance for hot temperatures.
Machine/tool access: Forging equipment in our metal shop
